From the Manufacturer
In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

5I want to set the record straight
By Clair L. Socci
These shoes are perfect for what I need on the run.

My History:

Asics 2140/trail => Brooks Cascadia 5 => Saucony Progrid Peregrine 2 => Asics Gel-Scout
I am a marathon/ultra marathon runner who went the minimalist route (after Born To Run) for a bit with Vibrams and NB minimus but realized my body is not built that way! After a hair line fracture last year I'm back with Asics wondering why I ever left!

Pros:

Plenty of cushion, protection and support on rocky trails.

The shoe has a nice thick sole.

The bottom lugs ensure no slip grip on most surfaces (haven't tried wet boulders/rocks yet).

The rock plate is a dream! Why can't this be standard in all trail shoes?

Incredible comfort. From the plush tongue and ankle cushions to the breathable mesh. For me, they are true to size but I have small bony feet...

Stony trails feel like running on carpet. As long as the trail is not technical you don't have to think where to plant your feet.

Cons:

They are a little heavy and "clunky" at times. They ride high so sometimes you don't "feel the road". I'd rather this than another fracture so it's a plus for me!

The colors. It's indeed bright and flashy but honestly you buy shoes for the ride right? These will deliver with flying colors.

-------------------------------

So far I've logged 50+ miles and they show no signs of wear. I don't see why I won't get the full 500 out of them :)

Enjoy the run!

2sized smaller than normal--more garish than as photographed
By OWL OF MINERVA
As I wear size 10.5 or 11 shoes, I ordered the 11s from amazon and was barely able get them on--they were very binding in all dimensions, but especially at the sides and the top. Be aware that these shoes are sized small and are narrow, despite amazon's description of them as of medium width.

Also, the background blue of the shoe sparkles Iridescently--they are more "disco" than they appear in the photo.

Cannot speak to their functionality as I returned the pair I received. Amazon's return policy on shoes is good--free return shipping and full refund when returned for sizing issues.

4ASICS Men's GEL-Scout Trail Running Shoe
By runner
I run on trails only and have run in theses a few times, all over 10 miles on each run.

I won't repeat what everyone else has said. I just want to hit a few pointers others haven't.
The Gel Scout is a lot different than any of there shoes I have run in.
The rock plate, nice, padding, just ok.

The only thing this shoe needs is to loose 2 ounces without compromising anything.
The shoe is even trying to be a lighter shoe.
It has a svelte fit like the more minimal shoes, yet it is not a svelte minimal shoe.
With a the lesser weight of a minimal shoe, you can get away with the slender padding on the inside.
With this shoe, this and the extra weight just assists with the clunkiness.

There is more room than most shoes in the heel that I care for, but most people should fit them better than me.
I like running in the high drop high cushioning of asics shoes. This shoe is just a little lower to the ground with a little less drop.

For the good.
This is a shoe that excels in technical terrain.
The forefoot also holds your foot and toes in place on downhills better than any shoe I have ever used.
The design (I'm sure not on purpose) somehow doesn't even let your toes hit the front of the shoe.

I think the fit would be a better choice for someone with at least a medium build and for those that do not run very fast to care about the extra weight or would even notice the shoe being clunky.
Either that or as an off trail demon on rocky and supper technical terrain.

Still a good shoe, it just needs to go on a diet for me to give it 5 stars.
